About

oUR hISTORY

In the late 1930s, Gus Angermeyer and his brothers left Germany in pursuit of a life defined by self-sufficiency and a deep connection to nature. On Santa Cruz Island, the family crafted a home from hand-carved lava rock and wood, laying the foundation for what is now known as The Cave, located at the heart of the inn. Among Gus’ accomplishments, the Nixe, was built entirely by hand in the islands, a vessel that embodied freedom, enabling the Angermeyers to explore, trade, and thrive through their bond with the sea. Today, the Nixe lives on as the Inn's most iconic room, offering guests a unique opportunity to stay in a space surrounded by history, where the legacy of adventure and exploration continues.
